Breakouts: Research Sessions
In the conference's five 75-minute breakout sessions, practical workshops and academic research presentations will run simultaneously, offering delegates the opportunity to plan their own programme to include each type of session. The full programme for both strands of breakout sessions will be published in early September.
The following topics are proposed for papers in the research sessions:
- Creativity and digital technologies
- Youth culture and children's culture
- Pedagogy and classroom practice
- Media education and cultural/educational policy
- Theory and practice in media teaching
- The history and future of media education
- Media education and media research
- Assessment and evaluation in media education
- Media education and literacy
- International developments in media education
In the process of peer review for the acceptance of abstracts, preference will be given to papers that take account of learning progression in media education.
Three papers will be presented in each breakout session, allowing 20 minutes for each presenter and 15 minutes for discussion. Chairing will be extremely strict. Reading from PowerPoint slides will be discouraged: presenters are asked to offer ideas for discussion rather than simply providing information. Presenters should bear in mind that delegates to MLC2011 will include teachers and other education professionals as well as academics. Papers from practising teachers are particularly welcome, and need not only be from those registered for research degrees.
